Green- Schools News

Our most senior Green-Schools Committee members Stephen, Katie, Rheanne, Nicole and Rhona accompanied Ms. Horan to the Helix on May 19th to do a very important job. Their task was to accept our 4th Green Flag for Travel with great pleasure on behalf of the school. This event was particularly unique and memorable for us as we were chosen to open the ceremony with a very animated performance of our Green Code. Our pupils did us exceptionally proud and received a loud applause and many compliments from the audience. We were later presented with our Travel Flag which we happily brought back to Phibsboro. We look forward to hoisting our Green Flag for all to see in our school grounds before the end of term.

Here is one account of how the day unfolded:

“At ten past twelve we all met at the office. Then our taxi arrived to take us to the Helix. When we were there we made ‘green wishes’ on a wishing tree and we got a green-schools’ bag, pen, bookmark and a tattoo. At one o’clock we were invited up to the third floor for lunch. It was delicious. At half past two we went to the theatre and recited our poem for the audience. Everyone cheered us! We stood on stage to collect our Green Flag to a huge round of applause. It was the best day of our lives!”

First Holy Communion News:

On Sunday May 10th, the children from 2nd Class received their First Holy Communion. This was a very special day for the children and their families. Fr. Paschal led the ceremony and each child had a job bringing up a gift, reading a prayer or singing. The choir sang beautifully on the day. This was certainly a day that the children will remember for the rest of their lives.

School Tours:

Our annual school tours took place for all classes this month. Everyone had lots of fun and really enjoyed their day. Our school tours would not have been such a success without the huge generosity of everyone involved in our sponsored walk at the beginning of the year. As a result of all your hard work the costs of the tours were greatly reduced. Also, thanks to all the parents who generously gave up their time to come along and help out on these days.

Athletics News:

Best of luck to our team of athletes taking part in the Cumann na mBunscol Schools Athletics Competitions in Morton Stadium, Santry over the coming weeks. We will have pupils taking part in relays, individual sprints, shot putt, hurdles, 600m and long jump over three dates.  Our boys and girls have been training solidly for months now and we hope that they will perform to the best of their ability and enjoy these wonderful sporting days out.
