Mr. Mc Conigley's Junior Infants

October 2018 - Halloween Dress Up

The children really enjoyed getting the opportunity to dress up in the favourite costumes for Halloween in school.  Check out these spooky costumes!

Shared Reading

Some of our parents gave up their busy schedules to come into our classroom and read some of our favourite 'Big Books' to us.  A huge thank you to all parents who read for us.

Christmas Concert 2018

Our Christmas Nativity called 'Angel Express' was performed in St. Peter's Church, along with the other Junior Infant classes (Ms. Quaine's and Ms. Ryan's) for all our parents, which was a fantastic production and enjoyed by everyone.  We had the opportunity to sing some of the songs from our nativity play for the other classes in school to hear as part of our Christmas Concerts.

March 2019

Seachtain na Gaeilge

As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, the chidren took part in our annual ceolchoirm in the hall.  Bhí gach duine sa scoil ag iarraidh Gaeilge a labhairt i rith an seachtaine na Gaeilge.  Everyone had been making a great effort to speak Irish during Irish week.  Comhghairdeas uilig! Congratulations to all!

The children sang a couple of songs as Gaeilge.  They really enjoyed learning the Irish version of Baby Shark i.e. 'Bábóg Siorc 'as did everyone else in the audience.

St.Peter's Got Talent April 2019

Our class took part in our school talent show this year with our own version of the song 'Happy'.  The children thoroughly enjoyed coming up with the  actions to the various lines in the song.  They showed no sign of nerves on the day and did their very best to showcase what little stars they are in the making! Well done to tham all!

Our Junior Infant class really enjoyed their school tour at PJ's Playcentre in Balbriggan last May.  This was very much an active tour as the children were kept on their feet at all times.  Activites included playing in the play-frame, go-karting, disco dancing and I think our most enjoyable experience was our very own opportunity to 'Make-A-Bear', which were all named and brought home that day,  I think we all agreed that it was definitely the best choice of tour.

Thanks to all the staff at PJ's Playcentre for making it fun and enjoyable.  Also, a special thanks to all parents who came along and helped out.

This month, we have also been very lucky to get the opportunity to use and explore the new Ipads, which have recently come into our school.  We used the website to navigate our way through the various phases of phonics tasks, which really put our Jolly Phonics knowledge to the test.

Introducing Bee Bots into our Classroom

The children in my class were very excited to use 'Bee Bots', which are a new additional resource to our school's ICT equipment range.  Bee Bots are interactive and have up to 200 step memory installed in them, which help teach young children about control, directional language and simple programming.  They had a lot of fun programming their Bee Bots to find their way to various places marked out on  a variety of Beet Bot mats.

Our Butterfly Garden

The children were amazed by our Live Butterfly Garden as they observed the tranformation of caterpillars into beautiful butterflies.  Once all five butterflies hatched from their cocoons, we released them into the wild.

Intercultural Day - June 2019

Our Junior Infant class represents nine countries from around the world.  While we have alot of similarities between us, it is very important to celebrate our differences with great respect and dignity.

Therefore we took part in our annual Intercultural Day of celebrations.  We sang many songs and rhymes in our own native languages, painted flags, made projects, dressed up in national costume/colours of our native countries and brought in traditional foods to taste.  It was a wonderful success and the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“We live now in a global village and we are in one single family. It’s our responsibility to bring friendship and love from all different places around the world and to live together in peace." --Jackie Chan

Sports Day - June 2019

The children had an active and fun time taking part in all the races, games and activities set up for Sport Day 2019 in Dalymount Park.  They rotated around the pitch to the various stations, which included 100m sprints, sack races, egg and spoon races, parachute activities, hurdles, playground games to name but a few. We had a few winners from the 100m sprints and hurdles.  Well done!  A big congratulations to all children who fully participated in Sports Day, which is really what it's all about !!smiley

Primary Strings Project - Violin Class with Ciara

The children have been learning the violin with Ciara in Music this year and have made fantastic progress, which all parents had the opportunity to see for themselves at our 'Open Day' i.e. End of Year Concert.  Over the year, they took part in musical listening activities, song singing, bow holds with dowels, plucking to songs on various strings and more recently, they have been using their bows to play the violin to music on the 'E' string.  All children should be really proud of themselves! Congratulations and Well Done! A huge 'Thank You' to Ciara, who has done superb work with them.

Teddy Bear's Picnic

Owing to the wonderful sunshine, it was a day for teddy bears to have their picnic! Junior Infants have been so good this year they got a special treat- a Teddy Bear's Picnic!

We had a 'Show and Tell' in class to introduce all our favourite Teddy Bears to each other.   We had an outdoor picnic with all of the Junior Infant classes.

We all had the best day ever!

Mr. Mc Conigley's Junior Infant Class of 2019

Over the last few days in school, we have been talking about our favourite memories of our first year in school, which included our first day at school, dress up days, our Nativity Plaly, the excitement of Sports Day, our school tour to PJ's Playcentre and time spent in the Aistear areas within the classroom etc.  Using all the memories, we put together a little 'Memory Book' to treasure a special keepsake.

The children have worked so hard all year and have been a pleasure to teach.  Wishing each and every one of them a safe and happy summer holiday,
