Intercultural Day 2025
Here, in St. Peter’s N.S., we are conscious that we have children, parents and staff from many different backgrounds, countries and religions that make a part of our happy and vibrant school community.
Intercultural Day allows us the opportunity to learn more about the children’s own cultures and traditions and to welcome parents into the school. It also provides a break from the usual classroom work, allowing the children to be more creative.
With that in mind, we hosted a whole-school ‘Intercultural Day’ on Friday 31st January 2025 to celebrate our unique differences while coming together as one – “We are all Citizens of the World!”
Each class selected a country of interest to them, conducted research and created a display with various facts and pieces of information. Each pupil was given a ‘passport’ and a designated ‘departure time’ to roam the world collecting stamps and making note of some of the important geographical information about countries displayed (population, mountains, rivers, landmarks, language spoken, currency, famous people, food and traditions etc) in the form of carrying out a short trail.
Our SESE coordinator Mr McConigley created a superb timetable of events for the day, including:
- A trip around the world
- Performances in the school hall by pupils
- Parents joined us to share wonderful food items from their native country
- A dress up day for pupils
We wish to thank Mr McConigley, staff and parents for their contributions to make this day so special and fun for our pupils.
