On Wednesday, 25th of January, Ms. Gavaghan’s 6th class were invited by Senator Mary Fitzpatrick to visit Leinster House. The boys and girls were taken on a very comprehensive and intriguing guided tour of the building, stopping off at the visitors gallery to see a motion on inshore fishing being debated. We were provided with a detailed history of the building, the formation of the state and important people in Irish political life.
Our boys and girls had an opportunity to question our esteemed Minister for Education, Norma Foley. Minister Foley taught both Ms. Gavaghan and Ms. McKenna in secondary school so Ms. Gavaghan was happy to be reunited with her former teacher. Our boys and girls asked the minister about her inspirations, what were the challenges within the role and whether or not she believed teachers were undervalued (😂).
Senator Mary Fitzpatrick addressed the boys and girls specifically in the Seanad. The 2 minute speech will be broadcast on Oireachtas Tv and the website from the 26th of January.
Senator Fitzpatrick treated our boys and girls to a goody bag to round off a wonderful day.
